In case opening an app and tapping “clean” was too much work, you can now activate your robot vacuum by voice. Neato Robotics, the company behind the Botvac series of robot cleaners, announced an integration with Google Assistant, the voice inside the Google Home smart home device.
Botvac owners who have a Google Home will be able to tap into the latest feature starting today. Rather than jumping through hoops navigating Botvac’s buttons or app, users can simply shout “Ok Google, tell Neato robot to start cleaning” and the robot vacuum will slave away.
The voice-powered setup is completely hands-free. As an added bonus, Botvac owners can ask the Google Assistant for their bot’s battery life and physical location. Currently, the integration works with existing Botvac Connected models, including the new affordable Botvac D3 and D5 Connected.
“The explosion of artificial intelligence has enabled more sophisticated voice control and we are happy to bring this revolutionary technology to customers. At the heart of Neato’s brand is – and always has been – technology leadership through innovation — the Google Assistant integration further cements our commitment to innovation in the smart home,” said Giacomo Marini, CEO of Neato.
Simplebotics nabbed a Botvac Connected for review in December. The robot hoover sucks up a myriad of debris: pet hair, food crumbs, crumpled leaves, dirt globs, and paper bits. Not to mention Botvac Connected works flawlessly with Amazon’s Alexa.
If you’ve got a Google Home (and live in the US), you may now enter the future of home cleaning.
