While Alphabet may be looking to sell off Boston Dynamics due to a lack of “marketable products,” the parent company still has a number of robotics companies under its corporate umbrella. SCHAFT, a Tokyo-based robotics company known for whooping robot ass in the DARPA Robotics Challenge, unveiled today their latest robotic achievement—a pair of legs.
The trotting pair doesn’t walk with a name yet, but a video demonstration shown at the New Economic Summit 2016 proves its skill in walking up stairs, clambering over objects, and trekking past rough terrain.
An X spokesperson was quick to note that the SCHAFT presentation “wasn’t a product announcement or indication of a specific product roadmap.” Instead, “The team was simply delighted to have a chance to show their latest progress.”
Last month, Bloomberg reported that Alphabet was looking to sell Boston Dynamics, the company behind Atlas. The company was worried by the lack of a products available for the market and that working on seemingly killer robots could be harmful to their image.
