Xiaomi, the Chinese company known for its high-quality, budget consumer electronics, will be launching its first entry into the drone market. As spotted by 9to5Google, a post on Xiaomi’s forums teases a quadcopter while asking forum users to guess its name.
Xiaomi explains the upcoming drone with a little teaser:
Something wonderful and cool is flying to us very soon. A Bamboo-copter? In China, it’s the earliest flying toys consisted of feathers at the end of a stick, which was rapidly spun between the hands and released into flight.
The post is titled “Mi Drone” so the name may have already slipped. Nonetheless, the official launch is set to live stream on Xiaomi’s website May 25. With the supposed Mi Drone on the drone market, Xiaomi could be placing itself as one of the largest Chinese drone manufacturers, competing with DJI and Yuneec.
Xiaomi will be live streaming the Mi Drone event at 7 AM EST May 25 on their website.
