Three years ago, Google acquired robotics company Boston Dynamics. Today, Google is in plans to sell the company off.

A report from Bloomberg, including anonymous sources, suggests that Google (technically Alphabet) is looking to sell its skunkworks robotics company. This is an effort in restructuring companies under the corporate umbrella of Alphabet. Executives at Alphabet have concluded that Boston Dynamics isn’t likely to generate any profits in the foreseeable future, so giving the company up may be the best bet.

Boston Dynamics was recently cut from military contracts thus squashing any opportunity to make money through military gear-hauling robots like BigDog. Google may have expected Boston Dynamics to churn out a commercial product, but so far, they haven’t. The public image towards Boston Dynamics’ robots aren’t exactly of friendly nature; they’re associated with death and destruction. Perhaps Google isn’t keen on this public image and the absence of a market product. Possible companies interested in acquiring Boston Dynamics include Amazon and Toyota.
